This painting is called Gloconda and was painted by Rene Magritte in 1953. This picture shows hundreds of men in bowler hats, floating in the sky above an ordinary-looking street, or maybe they are raining down onto it. At fist the men see identical but the are very different. Each of them have different expressions and are posed in different ways. The result of this painting is comical, but it is also meant to make us think about art. Rene said he wants to challenge the viewers expectations. His picture reminds us that paintings, no matter ow real they seem, are not real. They are just illusions created by the artist.
